The Oval White House (1794-5)

No, not the one with the US President.  It’s the one next to the Oval House Theatre. It is now home to a number of theatrical businesses but was once St Mark’s Vicarage.

Look closely and you will see a blue plaque on the wall.  This is the birth place (in 1887) of one of the neighbourhood’s more famous residents- one Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery of Alamein better known as Monty during World War II.  He was the fourth son of a vicar of the nearby St Marks Church.
