Phoenix House (pictured right) is part of St George Wharf and home to several London Borough of Lambeth departments. It is also a great place to discuss the Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea Opportunity Area because you can just look out of the window and see some of the sites being referred to.

On Thursday 4th August 2011, there was a meeting between Lambeth and local community groups including Kennington Oval Vauxhall Forum and Stockwell Partnership.  I was representing the Oval Partnership. The primary purpose of the meeting was to discuss proposals to have VNEB Expo/Symposium events. This approach had been agreed at the Nine Elms Board on 23 June 2011. The role of the community groups present was to help inform the approach and disseminate information about any events once they are organised. The first event may be held in the Battersea Power Station site later this year. Also mentioned at the meeting was:

  • CLS Holdings, developers of Vauxhall Square had withdrawn their proposals for the ‘Linear Walkway’ at Vauxhall.
  •  TfL were reported as now taking a broader view of transport infrastructure within  and outside VNEM OA and not just the proposed Northern Line Extension
  • Lambeth would be developing a plan to cover their part of the VNEB OA

At the end of the meeting, there was a short presentation about forthcoming public realm improvement plans for parts of Lambeth. Local community groups would be invited to assist in developing ideas for the ‘Neighbourhood Enhancement Programme’
